Williamsville, N.Y. - More than 500 people gathered at Saints Peter and Paul Church on Main Street Saturday morning to pay their respects to Jamey Rodemeyer.
The 14-year-old Williamsville North High School freshman took his own life earlier this week. His parents and friends say he was the target of bullying both at school and online.
Among the mourners were complete strangers who came to support the Rodemeyer family. One woman came prepared to block protestors if any showed up but none did.
A caravan of trucks and buses loaded with students quickly passed by the church with signs conveying messages of tolerance and support for a young man gone too soon.
"He was very nice and caring and always there for his friends. He would always help when you had problems. I think he tried to stay strong in high school, but he eventually cracked from everything," said Jamey's friend, Cheyenne Phillips.
