YOUNGSTOWN, N.Y. - State Senator George Maziarz has been called an "enemy of reform" by the group Uprising NY for his opposition to an independent redistricting plan supported by Gov. Cuomo.

Before the last election, several local lawmakers signed a pledge with the group to support an independent redistricting process.

Maziarz signed the pledge, however now opposes the proposal because he believes it would be dominated by downstate politicians.

"That's been the history of the state of New York," said Maziarz. "The decision makers all come from basically the city of New York, Westchester County, Nassau or Suffolk County."

Maziarz also says he wants representation guaranteed from upstate.

Senator Mark Grisanti also told 2 On Your Side that Republicans oppose the governor's plan because it unfairly supports Democrats.

Local senators Gallivan, Ranzenhofer, and Young are also being called "enemies of reform" by Uprising NY.
