CHEEKTOWAGA, NY - Western New Yorkers looking to beat the heat with a new air conditioner are finding it's downright difficult to find a unit for sale.

2 On Your Side checked with several national retailers around the Galleria in Cheektowaga. Wal-Mart, Home Depot, Sears, Target and Best Buy are all sold out of air conditioners. The Wal-Mart received a new shipment at 4 p.m. Tuesday but was sold out when we checked back at 6:30 p.m. Sears received a new shipment but sold more than 100 Tuesday and now has none left.

The good news for shoppers is that local retailer Orville's is fully stocked with AC units.

"Over the weekend, we started selling more," Todd Hayhurst, manager at Orville's, said. "Then the last couple days we've been very busy with them."

Orville's sold more than 2,000 units from Monday to Tuesday, and the company says it shouldn't have any shortages, because it has plenty more at its local distribution center in Lancaster.

Some of the national retailers have spotty supplies, so it's best to contact the stores in your area by phone to see if they have any air conditioners left.
