CHERRY CREEK, NY - Two teens have come forward and admitted to acts of vandalism at a Chautauqua County ski resort.

Someone broke into eight lift houses at Cockaigne Ski Resort over the July Fourth weekend and caused some damage.

"There's graffiti on the walls, some broken windows," said employee Linda Johnson.

There are also scratched windows, some signs that were torn down and most of the light bulbs in the lift houses were taken out and smashed. This comes as clean-up still continues from January's fire that leveled the ski lodge. They still don't know what caused that fire, but they do know their community in the southern tier cares.

Ryan Day, 19, of Ellington and an 18-year-old male from Falconer are both charged  with criminal mischief and criminal trespass. The two told investigators they thought the buildings they tagged where going to be torn down because of the fire. They have also returned all the items taken from the Center to Sheriff's deputies.

"We've had such a good response, people have been so kind since the fire and getting us up and running," said Johnson.

People donated everything from a tent for skiers to ski rental equipment and office supplies. Johnson says it makes the graffiti and damage seem like a slap in the face after so much help from friends and patrons.

"The actual dollar value is not gigantic as far as what was lost, but the work involved, the clean up and everything, all these building are going to have to be gone through and cleaned up and we don't know how much that is going to be," said Johnson.

The suspects were given appearance tickets and are expected to appear in Cherry Creek Town Court at a later date.
