BUFFALO, NY - There is now a declared and endorsed candidate in the running to fill the now open seat of a state lawmaker in Western New York.
Sean Ryan, who is an attorney who specialized in housing issues, now has the Erie County Democratic party backing to run for the 144th State Assembly seat which was vacated by Sam Hoyt.
Ryan says if elected, he would try to open up various state grant programs to deal with neighborhood issues in the Westside, Riverside, and Black Rock areas of the city.
"I'd like to take that process and de-mystify it, make it simpler and be able to bring funds directly into our district to deal with the vacancy and abandonment problem, the vacant lot problem, problems with job training programs," Ryan said Saturday at his announcement.
The special election is set for September 19th, there are no other candidates so far.
