PEMBROKE, N.Y. -- Five people were hurt in a 2-car, head-on collision Thursday night along Indian Falls Road in the Town of Pembroke.
Friday, 2 On Your Side spoke with the parents of the 6-year-old victim, Garrett Talbot.
Garrett's mother says he was riding in the middle of the back seat with his safety belt on when the crash happened.
Hear from the mother in the video player, reported by 2 On Your Side's Michael Wooten and Photojournalist Bob Mancuso.
Garrett's aunt, Sonya Charache, was driving her SUV and crossed over the center line into the truck. Family members believe one of the children distracted her.
The other two kids in the car are expected to be fine. Jackson K. Gilbert, 2, has been released from the hospital. Kayda L. Charache, who is 17 months old and the brother of Garrett, remains at United Memorial Medical Center in Batavia.
Garrett's family says he is now in guarded condition at Children's Hospital in Buffalo. Sonya Charache suffered the most serious injuries and is still listed in critical condition at ECMC.
The truck was driven by Donald Sage, 70 of Oakfield. He was taken by Mercy Flight to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester where he is in guarded condition.
Deputies are still looking into the cause of the accident. They say the children were all properly belted, or in the appropriate infant restraint seats.
