Participating in a cardiac rehab program appears to help angioplasty patients boost their odds for survival.

Patients in a Mayo Clinic study enrolled in a structured follow up rehab program were 46-percent less likely to die from any cause than those who did not participate in rehab.

Survival outcomes were improved across both genders and for all age groups.

Cardiac rehabilitation programs help patients with nutrition counseling, exercise training, smoking cessation, and weight control therapy.
