CHEEKTOWAGA, NY-- You've seen plenty of flash mobs featuring groups of dancers and singers, but have you ever seen a flash mob doing CPR?
The performance at the Walden Galleria was more than just a fun surprise for shoppers, It was a flash mob with a message.
Only about one-third of cardiac arrest victims receive bystander CPR. It's a simple life-saving skill everyone should know.
"Anybody can do hands-only CPR with just chest compressions. Our audience was full of all age groups so anybody can perform it. And 'Stayin' Alive', the song is important because it's 100 beats per minute and that's the rate that you want to do chest compressions," says Jennifer Pratt, American Heart Association.
The American Heart Association is also urging state lawmakers to pass the "CPR in Schools" bill that would require all high schoolers get the life-saving training in their health class.
