AMHERST, NY-- The I-290 eastbound at the Niagara Falls Boulevard exit now reopen after more than six hours because of a serious motorcycle accident Tuesday night.
Several police and fire crews from Amherst and Town of Tonawanda responded.
Amherst Police confirmed Jose Amaro, 29, and Richard M. Caramazza, 27, were both killed in the accident. Tori M. Aceti, 21, was a passenger on Amaro's motorcycle and was taken to ECMC and is listed in stable condition.
Police say the victims were riding with other motorcyclists at the time of the crash. Witnesses told police the group was riding at a high rate of speed moments before the incident took place.
One New York State Trooper says he observed the group enter the highway at the Delaware Avenue on-ramp, and clocked their speed at 80 mph. Amherst Police say they were notified about the group heading towards the town, and the last speed the Trooper clocked the group at was over 120 mph.
Police say four people were taken to the Amherst Police Department for questioning. They did not say whether any charges would be filed.
The investigation into the incident continues, Amherst Police ask any witnesses to call them at 689-1311.
