BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Two sources confirm to 2 On Your Side that Assemblywoman Jane Corwin's Chief of Staff Michael Mallia is resigning from his position.
Mallia, you may recall, is the volunteer who claimed Tea Party candidate Jack Davis assaulted him following a Davis event in Greece, NY.
Mallia was volunteering for Corwin, who was the Republican candidate for 26th Congressional district seat running against Davis and democrat Kathy Hochul, when the incident happened.
Mallia and an unknown female were both shooting video when the incident happened May 11th. The Republican Party only posted a 14-second clip of the incident on YouTube.
At the time, Corwin would not comment on the incident only saying: "My chief of staff is on his own time after 5 o'clock in the afternoon," Corwin said. "You know, it's his video. It's up to him to decide what to do with it."
Kathy Hochul won the special election.
One source told 2 On Your Side the resignation happened either Tuesday night or will happen Wednesday morning. Another said the resignation is expected.
2 On Your Side reached out to Corwin's campaign, but our calls and e-mails have not been returned. We will continue to follow this story as it develops.
