Video: Barnaby Court Hearing Postponed

  • Matthew Barnaby

Amherst, NY - Former Buffalo Sabre Matthew Barnaby was scheduled to appear in Amherst Town Court Wednesday afternoon. However the case has now been transferred to the 8th Judicial Integrated Domestic Violence (IDV) Court in Buffalo.

The IDV Court handles cases regarding domestic violence in families. The court hears criminal, family, and matrimonial cases under a single judge.

Barnaby was released on his own recognizance after his arraignment Saturday morning on charges in connection with a domestic incident that happened Friday night.

Amherst Police charged the former Sabre forward and current ESPN analyst with criminal mischief, trespassing, harassment, contempt and aggravated harassment.  Police say 2 victims of the incident were not injured.

Barnaby currently works as a hockey analyst for ESPN.  A network spokesperson told 2-On-Your-Side's Adam Benigni Tuesday afternoon that Barnaby is "currently not scheduled to appear on the air while they monitor the situation."

Barnaby issued a statement Saturday through his publicist that reads as follows:

"The past few months have been difficult on our entire family, as my wife and I decided to seperate and divorce. Last evening, there was an unfortunate disagreement between us regarding a family matter. There was never any physical violence or threat of physical violence involved. I would like to ask that everyone respect our privacy during this difficult time, and hope that this will be resolved quickly and amicably."
