One of the most common questions I get from viewers is "how can I protect my computer for free."
I'm someone who is too cheap to compromise on price, but I'm a tech geek -- so I definitely don't want to compromise on quality either.
I've used, tested and experimented with the big ones -- McAfee and Norton -- and enjoyed some smaller companies like Intego. Recently, I've become quite enamored with CA's Internet Security Suite.
I've had a chance to speak with some industry experts and while most of the products do their job, the key is something that doesn't slow your computer down -- and a company that isn't terrible in the customer service department either.
I grew up on computers protected by Symantec. They worked well for PC, but slowed down when I went to their Mac Products -- which were very complicated to use.
At other times, when I've had to call customer service, the call takers are in India and the wait times to speak to them seem to last for an eternity.
Taking all factors into account, I do have a recommendation to pass along today.

You'll be able to try six months free of the same software I ordered. There's also a promo where you can score free tax software from H&R Block right now -- in time for the final weeks of tax season.
If you still like it after the six months, it currently costs around $50 to renew your subscription for a year. Purchasing a subscription renewal for longer than one year at a time saves about $30 for each additional year.
Here's the fine print to be aware of:
- When your six months of Anti-Virus Plus is nearing an end, they'll send you an email reminder. You can cancel, or if you would like to continue the service, just do nothing and it will be renewed automatically.
- They bill your credit card at the then-current subscription renewal price (plus applicable tax).
- Keep in mind, you have 60 days from the billing date to request a full refund.
Not every deal is super simple, but a little bit of work can save you a nice chunk of money. Also, CA Supports the Center for Missing and Exploited Children through every purchase of their software.

Finally, please make sure your PC meets the requirements and specifications to use or install any of the above software. It's all clearly spelled out. Installing something your operation system can't support could cause issues.
