The town of West Seneca is enforcing its sidewalk snow removal ordinance to make sure people are not forced to walk out in the street because of snow covered sidewalks.

Most businesses along Union Road have complied but the town will send out warning letters to property owners who fail to do so. That could be followed by a court appearance ticket and the possibility of a $250 dollar fine for those don't remove the snow.

That prompted a caller to our tipline to question why there was still snow on the sidewalks of the bridge which carries Union Road over Cazenovia Creek. That bridge is used by some people to walk to the nearby Southgate Plaza or other businesses.

Since Union Road is State Route 277, the state DOT will plow the road. But it turns out that state law requires the host community to clear snow from bridge sidewalks. 2 On Your Side contacted the West Seneca Highway Department and eventually a plow truck did respond to use a wing plow to clear the bridge sidewalk.

Another caller informed us about snow on the sidewalk of the Union Road overpass over the Thruway. We contacted Amherst Highway about that situation. Initially they told us the state was responsible but Highway Superintendent Robert Anderson later said the town would take care of the sidewalk on Monday.
