The Seneca Gaming Corporation will lay off approximately 210 employees across all areas of its gaming, entertainment and hospitality business. The layoffs will affect all three of its properties, the Seneca Niagara Casino, the Seneca Buffalo Creek Casino and the Seneca Allegany Casino. The Corporation will be providing severance depending on seniority and level of position.
The Corporation also announced a salary freeze for its salaried employees earning $70,000 a year or more, suspended its year-end bonus program and will implement salary reductions for members of its board of directors and senior management.
"We are confident in the strength of our long-term business model but have to be realistic about what is happening in the economy locally, regionally and nationally and how that impacts discretionary spending habits," said Seneca Gaming Corporation Chairman Barry E. Snyder, Sr. "Our net revenues have decreased over the past several months. We've been monitoring the situation daily and have had to make these difficult decisions in order to preserve as many jobs as possible. I have asked all members of the board of directors and senior management to take a five to 15 percent pay cut to help reduce the number of potential layoffs. Tough decisions had to be made to ensure the continuing strength and vitality of the Seneca Gaming Corporation as we move forward in uncertain economic times."
