CHEEKTOWAGA, NY-- Sears Holdings announced Monday they would be closing several Kmart stores, including the one on Walden Avenue in Cheektowaga.
The store will close in mid-December. A liquidation sale begins September 22.
"We have been strategically and aggressively evaluating our store space and productivity, and have accelerated the closing of unprofitable stores as previously announced," says Howard Reifs, a spokesperson for Sears Holding, which operates Kmart stores.
Kmart shoppers will still be able to shop at the Jamestown, Olean, Niagara Falls, Buffalo and Batavia locations, as well as online.
The number of employees affected is not available. However, those employees who are eligible will receive severance and can apply for open positions at other stores.
