As you are reading this, over 123,000 people in the United States are waiting for a lifesaving organ; more than 12,000 of those waiting are our fellow New Yorkers. Thousands more are waiting for life enhancing tissue and eye donations. There exists a tremendous need for New Yorkers to designate themselves as organ, eye and tissue donors by enrolling in the New York State Donate Life Registry. By doing so, you are giving legal consent for the recovery of your organs, tissues and eyes for the purposes of transplantation and research at the time of your death
Just as the Gift of Life can take the form of a life-saving organ, it can also take the form of a critical blood transfusion, and Unyts is the organization offering Western New Yorkers the opportunity to save and enhance the lives of neighbors by collecting, processing and distributing blood locally. Since beginning collections in June 2007, Unyts has become the primary supplier of blood products for ECMC, Kaleida Health, and all the hospitals in Niagara and Wyoming Counties. Our local hospitals need to maintain an adequate supply of blood for emergency situations and it is up to Unyts and the generosity of our donors to help provide safe levels of blood inventory.
