Wrapping up a warm fall season

The climatological winter begins Friday, December 1st.

Buffalo, NY — We are wrapping up the climatological fall as the first day of the climatological winter begins Friday, Dec. 1st.

Looking back, the numbers show it was a warm fall.

September was a warm month with a mean temperature of 65.4 degrees F, and above the average of 62.2 F.

October was an even warmer month compared to the average, with a mean temperature of 57 F, which is well above the monthly average of 50.8 F. The month placed 9th warmest October on record.

November was a cooler month with a mean temperature of 39.7 F, and below the average of 40.7 F.

When you look at fall temperatures for those three months together, you get a mean fall temperature of 54 F, which is above the Fall average of 51.2 degrees F.

In terms of precipitation, the rain was above average and the snow was well below average.

The fall rain was 13.17" which is above the Fall normal of 11.3".

Fall snow was only at 0.2" which is well below the normal of 8.3" (through Nov. 29).

The forecast for December shows arctic air coming in with rounds of snowfall likely, starting late next week and lasting until near Christmas Day potentially.
