First true blast of winter looms for next week

A blast of arctic air is set to move southward next week.

It's been a fairly quiet November, but it looks like winter weather may come roaring in with a vengeance during December.

Long-range weather models are all pointing towards a pattern similar to what set up in 2013, 2010 and even 2000, when a very deep area of low pressure parked itself over the western Great Lakes for an extended period of time. That same weather pattern also set the stage for an extended period of heavy lake effect.

There is still some uncertainty with precisely how cold or how snowy this year's version of this coming weather pattern could get. But let this be a heads up that this late-autumn weather we have now is running on borrowed time.
