The Herd fell to the RailRiders 3-1 in a nail biter Friday night at Coca-Cola Field.

With the bases loaded in the ninth, the RailRiders shortstop Abiatal Avelino broke the 1-1 tie beating out an infield single to push across the go-ahead run. A passed ball charged to catcher Mike Ohlman allowed another run to score to give the RailRiders a 3-1 lead over the Herd.

Cesar Valdez provided a solid start for the Herd. His only blemish came in the first inning when the RailRiders scored on the first three pitches of the game with two doubles. Valdez only yielded four hits and a walk while striking out five batters. He was replaced in the seventh inning with the game tied at one.

Just three pitches into the game, Buffalo found themselves with an early deficit. RailRiders leadoff man Mason Williams hit the first pitch of the game for a ground-rule double. Williams came around to score on another ground-rule double from his teammate Billy McKinney to grab the 1-0 lead in the first.

Down a run in the first, Jason Leblebijian delivered the game-tying RBI in his first at-bat since returning for the All-Star game. Roemon Fields started the inning with a walk and made his way to third after a pair of ground balls. Leblebijian came through with a two-out double to knot the score at one.
