JAMESTOWN, NY-- Jamestown Police say they are not charging the parents of a toddler found walking unattended along E. 2nd Street Wednesday morning.

After a passerby reported seeing the child, police responded. They found the about 2-year-old girl, who could not communicate her name, and brought her to the Jamestown Police Department.

Police put out a reverse 911 call and they conducted a neighborhood canvas to try and find the young girl's parents.

Around noon, the girl's mother arrived at the police department.

Police say it was determined a miscommunication between the parents resulted in both believing the child was with the other parent. In addition, they say they believe another child in the toddler's home did not leave the door fully secured, allowing the toddler to get out. No criminal charges have been filed. The Chautauqua County Office of Child Protective Services also looked into this incident.
