Inclusive playground planned

A new play space is planned for Niagara Falls.

NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. -- Plans are underway to build an inclusionary play space in Niagara Falls.

The Community Development Department and Niagara Falls City School District got input from parents Monday night about what they'd like to see the playground look like.

It'll be for children of all physical and behavioral abilities and will be built right next to the existing playground at Hyde Park.

The goal is to make sure every child has a place to play.

"There's no stairs on there, so for a student in a wheelchair or a family member or a child in a wheelchair, they can get up to the top and they can see what it's like looking down on the rest of the playground which maybe in a standard playground they couldn't do. We have a basket swing that allows for children who have mobility issues to swing with family members who maybe don't, and sensory issues to swing with family members who maybe don't have those type of sensory issues," says school psychologist Bryan Rotella.

The city applied for four grants and should know whether it's going to get them in about two months. The goal is to get the play space built and opened by July.
