BUFFALO, NY — It's the gift of giving in the holiday season that involves something far more than presents under the tree.
Volunteers from Beds for Buffalo, supported by the Service Collaborative of WNY, donated 20 hand-crafted beds to the Matt Urban Hope Center in Buffalo on Thursday.
It was the first of several deliveries to charitable distribution centers around the region. In all, the group built 100 beds to be donated into the new year.
"We... with groups of volunteers... milled the beds, sanded the beds, painted the beds, installed hardware on the beds. Now we're delivering them to community partners who will distribute them to families in need," said Kate Sarata who is the Executive Director of the TSC.
The Service Collaborative was awarded funds from the East Hill Foundation to build 100 beds in 2017. They hope for more money to continue building more in 2018.
