King Center Charter School celebrates MLK

Ahead of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. weekend, students at the charter school named in his honor celebrated the civil rights leader.

King Center Charter School paid tribute to the school's namesake Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Junior on Friday.

The celebration, which included singing and inspirational words, was held ahead of the national holiday honoring King.

Community organizer William Yelder was the program's keynote speaker. Yelder was at the March on Washington when Dr. King give his famous "I Have A Dream" speech.

"Martin Luther King made me feel special, he made me realize that I was a person," said Yelder. "I had dignity, I had respect, and I should walk with my head up high. Martin Luther King, to me, stressed a point of how valuable an education and being a young adult is."

Yelder said that was the message he wanted to pass on to the students during the program.
