Unique Eats: Tacos, Community and Beer

A unique spot in East Amherst is serving up Mexican cuisine with a left coast vibe.

East Amherst, N.Y. — What's in a name?

Well, everything, when it comes to a new taqueria along Transit Road. TCB stands for Tacos, Community and Beer and that is exactly what they are serving up there.

"We just wanted a fun, hip, quick-serve restaurant that everybody feels comfortable coming in here and eating," Jon McKissock, an owner of TCB, said.

Mckissock, with co-owner Justin Randaccio and chef Chris Mahoney, opened TCB in East Amherst earlier this year.

They wanted to bring West Coast-inspired food to Western New York. So, they came up with a menu of traditional and gourmet street tacos.

Each taco starts with two tortillas cooked on both sides for about a minute. That is then filled with pretty much anything you can think of.

There is a honey garlic shrimp taco with pineapple mango salsa. They also had a Cajun tempura battered shrimp po' boy with chipotle coleslaw as a taco of the week.

"Then we do a lot of traditional tacos on top of that from your chicken, regular beef, pulled pork," McKissock said.

If the tacos are a fusion of traditional and gourmet, the vibe in the place is a fusion, too. It's both rustic and modern.

"We kinda wanted to have that community neighborhood feel that kind of separates us from a lot of the other taco restaurants that are in Western New York," McKissock explained.

To top it all off, TCB got its liquor license in the past month and now features local beers, Mexican beers and mixed drinks including a classic margarita and the Lettieri, a jalapeno-cucumber margarita.

"They are already saying we really need a place like this on this side of Transit," Randaccio said. "It's really booming right now. It's going to be a staple for people to come in for a long time."

Whether you are craving tacos, community or beer, TCB has you covered for all three.

TCB is open for lunch and dinner seven days a week. It is located at 6449 Transit Road, East Amherst, NY 14051.
