Unique Eats at The Pomegranate

CLARENCE, N.Y. - Most Western New Yorkers probably haven't tried Persian food in their culinary journeys.

If you haven't, you're missing out.

Hidden in a nondescript plaza among the bustling area of Transit near Main, the Pomegranate offers a delicious take on that region's cuisine from kebabs to baklava.

The restaurant opened four years ago and recently added some extra seating among the tapestries and fountains that give the place an exotic atmosphere. Diners are also sure to get their mouths watering from the smells of the grill right behind the counter.

As for the food, Unique Eats recommends the pomegranate stew, made from chicken and walnuts with a pomegranate sauce (not nearly as sweet as you would think) and served with a yellow rice (complete with dried berries for some added tartness). The chicken and beef kebabs are also both favorites.

Along with delicious homemade bread and hummus, the restaurant features vegetarian and vegan dishes- the best among them being the Afghani-style Adas Pulo, rice mixed with raisins, lentils, dates, almonds & saffron.

And don't miss out on the delicious smoothies, juices, and, for the adventurous, the traditional Turkish yogurt drink Ayran (salty, not sweet- don't go in unprepared).
