Roswell Park Doctor Retires After 40 Years

BUFFALO, NY- A well-respected and beloved Western New York physician retired Wednesday night after a 40-year career.

Dr. Martin Brecher began his career treating pediatric cancer patients at Roswell Park in 1975. Over the course of his career, Dr. Brecher helped thousands of children, and rose through the ranks to become chairman of his department and division chief at Women & Children's Hospital.

Colleagues, co-workers and dozens of former patients celebrated Dr. Brecher for his kindness, skill and compassion during a retirement party in his honor.

"In the course of my career, I have seen such change in the outcome of these diseases and the survival rates and the cure rates of these children," Dr. Brecher said. "It's been incredibly rewarding to see that change within my career. And to see that most of our kids now are cured of cancer and that's a wonderful thing. It's an incredible thing."

Dr Brecher has published extensively and has received numerous awards for his clinical work and for his dedication to teaching at the University at Buffalo Medical School.
