An apple a day -- boosts muscle in a big way -- according to experts at the University of Iowa.
Their study in mice shows a compound in apple peels -- called ursolic acid -- can reduce muscle wasting and promote growth.
Mice fed the compound had lower blood sugar, cholesterol and triglycerides.
They also found mice given the compound gained muscle weight -- but not did not see a spike in overall body weight -- leading them to believe the mice had less body fat.
The researchers hope to move the study to human trials.
