Janet Snyder interviews Jane Eshbaugh from Holiday Valley. They discuss the new Sky High Adventure Park.
Anyone who has enjoyed the excitement of skiing or snowboarding at Holiday Valley in Ellicottville, New York will find summer at Holiday Valley Resort equally as thrilling. On Saturday, May 21, 2011 at 9:00AM Holiday Valley will be hosting a ribbon cutting ceremony and grand opening of the recently completed Aerial Adventure Park.
The $2.5 million Sky High Adventure Park is located in the Tannenbaum area of the resort. The Aerial Park is a unique outdoor experience in which visitors can explore the tree top courses; crossing platforms and bridges, climbing ladders, navigating obstacles and soaring on zip lines. The platforms are built in the trees and the bridges connect the platforms. The bridge may be a log, hanging chunks of wood or many other options and the challenge is to figure out how to get across to the next platform. It is not a strength issue; it is more strategy and balance. There are eight different courses with each increasing level taking you to new heights. Some courses have zip lines between areas, but it is very different from what most people think of as zip lines. Everyone gets a harness that has a special locking lanyard that safeguards you from falling if you slip or let go.
The Mountain Coaster, scheduled to open in early July, is similar to a roller coaster with cars that ride on a track. One or two riders load a car adjacent to the Tannenbaum Lodge and ride up the hill parallel to the Spruce Lake lift. At the apex the car begins its thrilling descent zigzagging and spiraling down through the woods. Riders can accelerate or decelerate using handles on the sides of the car.
The Aerial Adventure Park will be open to anyone ages 7 and up on weekends only May 21 to June 12. The park will be open daily June 18 to September 5 and will be open on weekends only September 10 to October 9. Daily rates for a 3 hour session are $42 per person. Packages including the Mountain Coaster Rides will be available as well and are priced as following: 3 hour Aerial including 1 Ride on the Mountain Coaster $45/person or 3 hour Aerial including the all day Mountain Coaster $55/person. Group rates are also available.
