New Officer Honors Mentor Who Died

BATAVIA, NY - A story from the field of law enforcement comes full circle as we focus on a particular officer-graduate who took part in Friday night's Rural Police Academy Ceremony in Batavia for 22-two-year-old).

Back in 2010, Drew Carriero , now 22 years old, had to be rescued after falling into the Zoar Valley gorge. He recovered and went on with his childhood goal of becoming a police officer.

Carriero honored the memory of a friend and mentor who helped rescue him from the gorge at Friday's ceremony.

Tragically, State Police Trooper Ross Riley died last year in a training accident in Letchworth State Park. Carriero told 2 On Your Side how Trooper Riley came to play such an important part in his life.
