Choosing the perfect wedding gown can be a bride-to-be’s dream – something that she has dreamed about for years! In order to select the right gown in time for the wedding, a bride-to-be should begin shopping for the gown as soon as possible. This is due to the fact that customized gown orders can take several months to one year, depending on the designer.

Brides-to-be should also consider the length of time needed for alterations and fittings to the gown. Since alterations professionals typically will have peak and slow times each year (such as May, a busy month for weddings and proms), you might need to allow more time for alterations to your wedding dress, depending on the time of the year. Generally, both off-the-rack and custom-ordered wedding dresses will need to have some alterations in order to have a perfect fit.

With regard to the color of the wedding dress, during the twentieth century, white was considered to signify joy rather than virginity. However, it is now considered to be appropriate for all brides – including those who are marrying again. All shades and variations of the color white (such as Ivory) are considered to be acceptable for all brides. In fact, most skin tones look better with a variation of white instead of a bright white.
