WNY Mom Opens Daycare, Changes Lives

BUFFALO, NY - We are celebrating a great Western New York mom, who found something missing while searching for a daycare for her twins. Instead of accepting it, she did something about it. Julie Wettlaufer opened her own daycare and has changed the lives of hundreds of children.

Fourteen years ago, Julie gave birth to premature twins. Both boys were born at just about twenty-five weeks. One of the boys had special needs and as Julie searched for a daycare, she could not find one that would take both boys, together.

She decided to open up her own. At the time, Julie was an emergency room nurse at Women and Children's Hospital. Julie opened a one-room daycare in Orchard Park, but soon realized the need was more than she had expected. She turned that one-room daycare into a campus. Wee Can Daycare is now a seven room daycare and preschool. Wee Can has 102 students and 72 staff members.
