Make A Difference Day unites volunteers from across the country with a common mission: to improve the lives of others through a wide range of community-driven service projects. Employees from WGRZ and their families will make a difference by helping to spruce up the Victoria Avenue Community Garden. This Community Garden has brought the neighborhood together through the hard work and dedication of Gerldine Wilson, a community leader in the neighborhood. The Victoria Avenue garden began as a source for fresh vegetables and fruit for the neighborhood. The garden also provides a place for healing and reflection for this community.
On Make A Difference Day volunteers will be helping to install a special pathway in the garden along with a compost bin and rain barrels for irrigation.
The TEGNA Foundation, supported by TEGNA Inc. (NYSE: TGNA), will contribute $185,000 in community grants for Make A Difference Day projects across the country. Locally, Grassroots Gardens WNY received $5,000 for the Make A Difference Day Project.
Make A Difference Day is made possible by the employees of TEGNA with support from the Arby’s Foundation and longtime partner Points of Light. Make A Difference Day began in 1992 and has since helped millions of Americans.
