Books for Kids 2014 Drive Kicks Off

WGRZ Channel 2 On Your Side, The Buffalo News, Wegmans and the Erie County Public Library are teaming up for Books for Kids. Initiated by Project Flight, Books for Kids is grass roots program that collects new children's books from the Western new Yorkcommunity and distributes them to needy children who would not otherwise have a chance to own a book of their own.

Organizations that serve children and community service organization lending libraries are eligible to receive books from Books for Kids.

On Friday, WGRZ Ch. 2 On Your Side was broadcasting throughout the day from the Wegmans on Alberta Drive in Amherst, collecting new books and cash donations for Books for Kids. All of the books collected will be sorted and distributed to children throughout Western New York.

Over the last 20 years, Books for Kids has distributed over 2.2 million books to needy children since it was established in 1995. In 2013 alone, 90,608 books were collected. Books for Kids is sponsored by The Buffalo News, Buffalo & Erie County Public Library, Project Flight, WGRZ TV Channel 2, Wegmans, The United Way of Buffalo & Erie County and Buffalo State College.
