BATAVIA, N.Y. - Without a look at the menu at Fab Fajita & Pita, you'd never know so many things would go so well on pitas.
Owner Vic Canastraro's new eatery near the raceway in Batavia aims to make that commonplace, with a fast-food option that focuses on fresh and healthy.
"We never expected it to be as busy as it was," says Canastraro. "We opened the doors, put on the open sign, and people started flowing in. It's been very well-welcomed here."
The menu features a wide variety of pitas, from the more familiar like Greek gyros to the quite unique, like the shrimp scampi-inspired "Italian."
Seasonal specials will rotate in and out, with the current pair a big hit: "The Godfather," featuring peppers, onions, and Mineo and Sapio sausage (Canastraro says he's the first to bring it to Batavia), and the Thanksgiving wrap, with turkey fresh out of the oven, stuffing, cranberry sauce, and maple-rum gravy (the standout of the dish).
The eatery also offers salads, homemade desserts and pasta fagioli soup, and different types of loaded fries (Unique Eats sampled and enjoyed the "Red-Eye Fries" with sunny-side-up eggs and sriracha sauce).
Canastraro hopes to eventually franchise out the restaurant and aims to have a location in Buffalo sometime next year.
