Emmy-winning reporter Aaron Saykin dusted off his red coat for a second tour of duty at Channel 2 in July of 2009. After spending three years as a consumer reporter in Pittsburgh, Saykin returned to the area where he feels most at home - and where he can proudly pester politicians on a regular basis.
Born and raised in Western Massachusetts, Saykin first came to Buffalo after working in several television markets, including Springfield, MA and Wilmington, NC. Perhaps he's best known locally as one of the original three "red coats," who uncovered vast pork and patronage in Erie County during the budget crisis of 2005. He's proud to again be part of a news team that remains committed to protecting taxpayers.
Along the way, he has won several awards, most notably an Emmy for his 2006 piece on "J-Mac," the Rochester-area teen with autism who was given the opportunity to play in a varsity basketball game, and scored 20 points. Additionally, he received the National Edward R. Murrow Reporting Award for a profile of a local man who hurt himself during a Major League Baseball game as he fell onto the field to catch a foul ball for his son with downs syndrome.
Aaron is a graduate of the University of Massachusetts and is currently a law student at the University at Buffalo. He and his wife live in Buffalo.
