BUFFALO, N.Y. — While this month's snowfall won't end up ranking in the Top 10 for February since record keeping began in Buffalo in 1871, it has been one of the snowiest since the turn of the century.

With only two days left in the month and barely any snow in the forecast through Sunday, it looks like the monthly snowfall for Buffalo this February will be 27.4 inches. This is a solid 4th place for snowiest February of recent memory, or since 2000.

The day with the most snow this month was February 6 with 6.4 inches recorded at the National Weather Service Office in Buffalo, where official observations and records for the city are kept. But it was the almost daily snowfall from February 5 through February 23 that added to this month's total snow and impressive snowpack.

This snowy period also coincided with 16 days where temperatures never reached freezing, 32 degrees. And that is the second longest in Buffalo history where temperatures were consistently below freezing. First place for this goes to a 23 day period back in February of 2015, which also ranks third for most monthly snowfall for February in Buffalo with 46.2 inches, first since 2000.

As for seasonal snowfall, Buffalo has received 71.4 inches of snow since the first flakes fell back in late October. This is just slightly under the average snowfall Buffalo would have usually received since late fall.

Storm Team 2 Meteorologists made their seasonal predications in their annual Winter Weather Outlook this past October, with predictions ranging from just below to slightly above average.
