NYSP investigating thruway accident that caused traffic delays Thursday

The I-90 eastbound is closed at exit 49 (Depew) due to the accident. Traffic is backed up from exit 50 (I-290) to exit 49.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — An accident involving a tractor trailer on the New York State Thruway in Lancaster caused major traffic delays on Thursday afternoon.

The accident happened on the I-90 in Lancaster near exit 49.

New York State Police investigators say a tractor trailer was travelling east on the I-90 when the driver lost control of the tanker, left the roadway and overturned several times.

The driver of the tractor trailer, Laura M. Winspear, 25, of Oakfield, had to be extricated from the vehicle. She was taken by Mercy Flight to ECMC with non-life threatening injuries.

Troopers say the tanker was hauling liquid manure, which leaked onto the Thruway. Environmental Conservation officers responded to the scene to assist with the clean up.

Investigators still do not know what caused the driver to lose control. No tickets were issued.

Pictures sent to 2 On Your Side on Thursday afternoon show the tanker truck rolled over on its side.
