UB, Bonnies, Niagara win; Canisius falls to Albany

Three of the men's Big 4 College basketball teams won their games Saturday.

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - Travis Charles scored 24 points and grabbed six rebounds as Albany held on for 68-65 win over Canisius on Saturday night.

Charles scored seven points as part of an 11-6 run to open the second half, lifting Albany from a one-point deficit at intermission to a 45-41 lead with 11:55 to play. Canisius remained close after that and an Isaiah Reese 3-pointer cut it to 67-65 with five seconds remaining. Reese missed another try from distance and the Great Danes (11-2) held on for the win.

Joe Cremo added 16 points, four rebounds and five assists for Albany. Greig Stire had 10 points and seven rebounds.

Canisius went up 28-18 on a Reese jumper with 7:27 to play in the first half but Albany surged 16-7 in the final six minutes to close to 35-34 at the break.

Reese scored 19 points for the Golden Griffins (4-7) who have lost three straight. Jermaine Crumpton added 16 points and nine rebounds.

UB knocks off Robert Morris, 86-70

BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) - CJ Massinburg scored 23 points and led six players into double-figure scoring as Buffalo knocked off Robert Morris. 86-70 on Saturday afternoon.

Massinburg, who came in averaging 19.7 points per game, was 6 of 8 from the field, including 3 of 4 from distance, and 8 of 10 from the line.

Davonta Jordan drilled a 3-pointer to spark a 10-0 run by the Bulls midway through the first half that gave them a 29-16 lead that turned into a 46-30 advantage at intermission.

Jordan finished with 13 points and Jeremy Harris added 14 points and grabbed nine rebounds.

Dachon Burke scored 18 points to lead the Colonials (6-5) and Koby Thomas added another 13.

The Bulls (7-3) added redshirt-freshman quarterback Dominic Johnson to the roster and the former two-sport high school star made his debut last week against Central Penn.

Buffalo now goes on the road to face Syracuse and No. 9 Texas A&M.

Matt Scott's buzzer beater wins it for Niagara

NORFOLK, Va. (AP) - Matt Scott nailed a 3-pointer from just outside the arc as time expired to give Niagara an 85-82 come-from-behind win over Norfolk State on Saturday.

Niagara (5-6) had just one brief lead and trailed until the final 90 seconds when Kevin Larkin, Kahlil Dukes and Scott hit three consecutive treys for the win. Norfolk State's Derrik Jamerson Jr. had drilled two straight 3s for an 80-76 lead with 1:56 remaining.

Niagara took its first lead 75-74 when Scott made two free throws with 3:33 left. Jamerson answered with his first trey to retake the lead.

Scott, who averages 25.4 points a game, finished with 20, hitting 4 of 6 from distance. Marvin Prochet added 14 and Dukes chipped in 12 for the Purple Eagles.

Jamerson had 17 points to lead Norfolk State (1-10), which opened the season with nine consecutive losses.

Norfolk State got off to a fast start, taking a 51-40 lead into the break.

Bonnies knock off Vermont at buzzer

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (AP) - Matt Mobley made just one basket on Saturday, a contested 3-pointer at the buzzer to lift St. Bonaventure over Vermont 81-79.

Trae Bell-Haynes missed a layup but Payton Henson scored on the put-back to give Vermont a 79-78 lead with five seconds to play. Mobley hit the 3 from the right of the arc and it rimmed in for the game-winner.

Jaylen Adams scored 17 points and had five assists to lead St. Bonaventure (8-2), which has won five straight. Courtney Stockard added 14 points, and Amadi Ikpeze and Izaiah Brockington each chipped in 13. Mobley was 1 of 3 from the floor and had four assists and five rebounds.

Anthony Lamb scored 27 points and Bell-Haynes had 13 for Vermont (7-4).

Stockard and Adams each made 3-pointers as part of a 7-0 surge to give St. Bonaventure a 73-69 lead with four minutes left. The Bonnies held the lead until Henson scored late.
