Sabres Move Forward Without Kane

A day after the NHL trade deadline, the Sabres were back on the ice without Evander Kane Kane was traded on Monday.

BUFFALO, NY- Tuesday morning the Sabres were back on the practice ice at the Key Bank Center.

Forward Kyle Okposo did not practice because his wife went into the labor. The Sabres called up Seth Griffith from the Rochester Americans. It appears as though Griffith will step into Okposo's spot with Benoit Pouliot and Evan Rodrgues at least for Wednesday's game at Tampa.

Monday, on trade deadline day there was a report, which was false that goaltender Robin Lehner had asked to be traded. Lehner said that was "fake news." And added, "It's funny how it works. Some blogger put something out, I don't even know who the guy is, people seem to jump on it, a bunch of Swedish web sites, serious web sites quoted that one. It's hilarious. This day and age you don't have to put a source on it, so it's not true. I'm happy I'm still a Sabre."

With 19 games left in the regular season the Sabres are second last in the NHL trailing only Arizona.

Most of their remaining games are against teams in the playoffs or are contending for playoff spots.

They'll play the remainder of the season without Evander Kane, who was traded to San Jose Monday.

Head coach Phil Housley wants his team to finish strong. "We have a lot to prove leading into the summer. I mean we've got to finish the right way. I like the challenge that we're facing some really tough teams and teams that are trying to get into the playoffs, that are close, we'll really get a good evaluation on our guys."
