CHICAGO, IL - Sabres goalie prospect Cal Petersen is likely headed for free agency, Buffalo general manager Jason Botterill told reporters at the NHL Draft in Chicago Friday morning.

Petersen announced on May 31 that he was forgoing his final year of at Notre Dame eligibility with the intention of signing a NHL contract. The Sabres have 30 days from May 31 to sign him.
Petersen was a fifth-round pick by the Buffalo Sabres in the 2013 NHL draft (129th overall) and became one of the top goalies in college hockey.
