BUFFALO, N.Y. - Sabres forward Jack Eichel left practice on Wednesday with a high ankle sprain.

"We all feel it on the ice," said Sabres head coach Dan Bylsma. "It took the wind out of the guys."

The Sabres announced the injury on Twitter but didn't give a timetable for his return. A source close to Eichel tells 2 on your side sports director Adam Benigni that he'll likely miss 4 to 6 weeks.

The Sabres season starts at home on Thursday night against the Montreal Canadiens.

Bylsma described it as a non-contact injury. He told reporters that Eichel turned and his ankle bent under him.
