Benigni weighs in on Kane trade

Our Adam Benigni weighs in on the Evender Kane trade.

BUFFALO, NY - In response to the Buffalo Sabres trading Evander Kane to the San Jose Sharks Monday, 2 on Your Side's Adam Benigni weighed in:

I think this was a day where a lot of fans expected sweeping changes that would change the direction of this franchise. I don't know that the trade deadline is necessarily where that happens. But I do think that it's a day where this new G.M., first time G.M. Jason Bootterill, has fallen short.

The expectation was first round pick for Evander Kane. 20 goals, 20 assists, they send him to San Jose. It's a conditional first rounder with big conditions. He's an unrestricted free agent, can sign anywhere this summer. In order for that to stay a first round pick, he's got to sign with San Jose or The Sharks have to win the Stanley Cup. Those are the massive "ifs."

The fan base, the frustration, I understand it. This is a team that should be doing much more with the talent that it does have. And again, this is the day where the G.M. comes up short.

No other offers for any other player he says, he points to the summer instead, where the changes would suggest a more positive direction for the franchise might take place.

So it's a wait and see proposition, for a fan base that certainly has the right to expect so much more.
