McDermott on Allen: He's the Leader

When asked who the leader of the Bills offense is, head coach Sean McDermott didn't mince words.

"Josh is the leader."

The hasn't always been the case for the rookie and seventh overall pick this season, but McDermott says he's earned that title.

"In the last couple of weeks, the way he came off the injury... He's earned the respect of his teammates.  Because of the quarterback position, he's become the leader."

Allen is completing 52.4-percent of his passes.  He's thrown for 1429-yards with five touchdowns and nine interceptions.  Clearly he is still a work in progress in terms of his development as a passer.

He's the team's leading rusher averaging 54.4-yards per game, mainly due to  the lack of a conventional running game for the Bills.  LeSean  McCoy is second on the team with a 39.9-yards per game average.  Clearly not where a featured running back should rank.

McDermott is well aware of that glaring shortcoming on his offense.

"You have to be able to run the football... eventually that comes back to haunt you."

INJURY UPDATE:

-LeSean McCoy (hamstring) will not practice on Wednesday continues to be listed as day-to-day looking towards Sunday's game with the Lions.

-Kicker Stephen Hauschka (hip) will not practice Wednesday but McDermott says they expect that he will be able to play Sunday.

-Bills cornerback Ryan Lewis will not practice after suffering a concussion.

-Quarterback Derek Anderson will be limited in practice but remains in  concussion protocol.
