The Crusaders led by Rich Robbins and his coaching staff are one of the top teams in WNY and NYS in the past several years, including 2 state titles. They have quality All-WNY candidates in Jayce Johnson, Paul Woods, Brad Currell, Kenyatta Huston, and Keenan Ollison. They will need to replace kicker Blake Haubeil who is at Ohio State. They return 6 on offense and 3 on defense. Talent from 8-1 JV squad will help Robbin’s team. The varsity record in the past 6 seasons is 54-14-0 while the JV team are 28-6-1 in the past 4 years. Huston averaged 13.1 yards per carry and is an explosive player on both sides of the ball. They open with Pittsford and travel to Bishop McDevitt in week 2. They have a tough schedule as usual and will compete for league and state championships. The offense will be explosive. Will McGennis is a lineman who benches 385 lbs.

Marauders look to rebound from last year’s 3 win season. Offense will be sparked by junior QB Casey Kelly who is an All-WNY candidate. Other key players include Nick Julian, Jaden Lofton, Charlie Niesciur, Jim Grable, Cameron Dabill, and Tyler Doty, a 6’5 295lb junior lineman. They open with Archbishop Ryan (PA) and host Aquinas in week 3. They play rival Canisius in week 4 and should improve this season. Key to the season will be the play of their defense. Coaches need to expedite play calling in games which was a problem in 2016. Derek Landri received early Christmas gifts with the transfers of 3 linemen to the Marauders.

The Tigers look to improve on last year’s 5-5 record. Joe Licata, former Williamsville South and University at Buffalo star is the new head coach and athletic director, replacing Charlie Comerford. Last Year’s All-WNY lineman Jeremiah Sanders transferred back to South Park. Other key players include Javon Thomas, Jaurney Boyland, Jordan Hill, and Justin Campbell. They will miss Joe Harrison and will compete for the league title. They do have a tough schedule though. They play Canisius in week 3 and Aquinas in week 5. Myers will attend Univeristy at Buffalo on a football scholarship. Key to the season will be the play of the line. Please note that with several players transferring to other schools, there is a possibility of the Tigers only being able to field a JV team this season. Tigers will have varsity football in 2017.

Red Raiders Jerry Smith needs to replace Jerry Hickson, a 4 year starter at QB who passed for a WNY career 7610 yards. Dylan McDuffie who rushed for 1255 yards and 14 touchdowns in 2016 has left the school, leaving a void in the rushing attack. Key players include Retsen Daley, Melique Straker, Dawson Tyger, Grayson Myers, and Cole Gambino. They return 4 starters on both sides of the ball. Smith is entering his 30th year as head coach and has recorded 152 wins. JVs were 1-7 in 2016 and will compete for the title. They open with McDowell and University Prep. They have a tough matchup with Cathedral Prep in week 5. Key to the season will be the play of the QB.

Hawks look to improve on last year’s 2 wins. Shaquille Dudley returns quality players in All-WNY candidates Michon Dudley, Stephen Boyd,and Michael Clark. They will miss William Willis. Other key players include Jamall Lewis Jr, Rene Velazquez, Brandon Broadnax, and Jamall Lewis Jr. They open with Mount St. Joseph’s in Baltimore and have a tough matchup in week 7 at Steubinville, Ohio. They play Canisius, St. Joe’s, St. Francis, and Aquinas which is a credit to Shaquille Dudley, coaching staff, and athletic director.

Chris Dickson will have the Lancers improving after last year’s one win season. The team will be young. Last year’s team had 25 underclassmen including 10 freshmen. Key to the season will be the play of the line. Ozolins is a candidate for 1000 yards rushing. They have a tough matchup in week 6 at Stubenville, Ohio. Lancers do not play any of MMA big four. They open with Bishop Kearney and have 2 open dates.
