The following are the preseason practice requirements for the 2017 Western New York high school football season:

The first two days of practice must be non-contact, without the use of protective equipment and mechanical blocking devices, but helmets can be worn. The use of devices as teaching aids is permissible.

The next three days provide a transition from the conditioning phase to full contact. During this phase, players are permitted to also wear shoulder pads and blocking dummies, sleds and similar devices are permitted. However, player-to-player tackling drills and running full contact plays are not yet permitted.

The following six days consist of full contact practice with full protective equipment and the use of all training devices. Full team scrimmaging is also permitted.

Four additional practices must be completed by the individual and team prior to the first contest. Interscholastic scrimmages may commence after the completion of 11 practices by the individual player and team, while games require the completion of 15 practices.
