BUFFALO- The Buffalo Bisons lost the first of a three-game series with Louisville, 6-5, after giving up a four-run second inning on Friday night at Coca-Cola Field.

Louisville's big second inning got underway after Alex Blandino was hit by a low T.J. House pitch followed by a walk from Tyler Goeddel. Zach Vincej brought the pair home when he doubled on a grounder to left field. Bats outfielder Jesse Winker then drove in an RBI single with a ground ball to center field to score Vincej.

To stretch their lead to a 4-0 margin, Louisville capped the second frame off with another run after Dwight Smith Jr. botched a catch before slamming into the right field wall.

Louisville added two more runs in the later innings to go up 6-3. Vincej hit a sac fly after a Goeddel triple in the seventh and Brandon Dixon drilled a home run to centerfield an inning later.

Buffalo's task of chipping away at Louisville's lead began with the first at bat of the Bisons half of the third frame. Jon Berti took a 1-2 count against Bats pitcher Rookie Davis and blasted a solo home run to right field for his third of the season.

The Herd added two more runs in the fourth and the sixth frames respectively. With three consecutive singles in the fourth from Raffy Lopez, Jake Elmore, and Shane Opitz, Lopez was able to make his way to home plate and make it a two-run game at the time. The Herd used Rob Refsnyder's speed two innings later after he grounded to left field for a double and then sprinted home after a line drive single from Gregorio Petit to bring the game within one run at 4-3.

The Bisons found themselves with a chance to win the game with the bases loaded in the ninth and trailed a single run after a passed ball by Chad Wallach. The comeback fell short after Jake Elmore grounded out to short.

Southpaw T.J. House started for the Bisons and worked the mound for five innings. In that span he allowed the first four runs, three of which were earned, and dished four strikeouts. Wil Browning, J.P. Howell, and Andrew Case threw in relief. Browning and Case each let by a run and Howell gave a scoreless inning of relief.

The Bisons are back in action on Saturday night for game two with Louisville at 7:05 p.m. Nick Tepesch (0-0, 4.50 ERA) will make his second start with the Herd and lefty Cody Reed (3-6, 3.79 ERA) will man the mound for the Bats.
