NEW YORK — The New York State Police have announced that Investigator Ryan Fortini passed away after fighting cancer related to his work at the World Trade Center site in the aftermath of 9/11.
Fortini was assigned to a search and rescue detail after the terrorist attacks.
During his 16 years on the job, Fortini worked primarily with Troop K in Poughkeepsie and the Community Narcotics Enforcement Team in the Hudson Valley.
Fortini retired in 2015 because of his medical condition. He is survived by his parents, brother, sister and fiance.
