BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Just an hour before the Sabres began the 2016-2017 season, the team announced a big deal in the front office.

The Sabres announced Thursday night that they've signed General Manager Tim Murray to a contract extension.

The Sabres have not released any details on his contract extension, but Murray did say that it's a multi-year deal. His current contract was set to expire at the end of this season.

Murray arrived in Buffalo in January of 2014 from the Ottawa Senators, where he served as their Assistant General Manager.
