Howard declared winner in Sheriff's race

More than two weeks after election day, we have a winner in the race for Erie County sheriff.

BUFFALO, NY-- More than two weeks after election day, we have a winner in the race for Erie County sheriff.

The Erie County Board of Elections counted absentee ballots for the last day on Wednesday.

Following election night, Sheriff Tim Howard had 106,771 votes and Challenger Bernie Tolbert had 103,382 votes, and with thousands of absentee ballots still left to be counted, that race was not called until Wednesday. Following the absentee ballot count, Howard added an additional 3,814 votes and Tolbert added 3,516 votes. Howard was declared the winner.

This will be Howard's fourth term in office.
