In 2016, guys named Matthew were probably like, "Oh, that's my name!" if they saw the 2016 list of hurricane names.

But then Hurricane Matthew hit Florida. And Matthews might've been like, "Oh. That's my name."

There's a fun factor to having your moniker appear in the National Hurricane Center's list, pending, of course, there are no major injuries or damage reported in said hurricane. If that happens, like in the case or Hurricane Matthew, where, according to Brevard Emergency Management Director Kimberly Prosser, about 1,650 structures in Brevard sustained damage during Matthew.

In a FLORIDA TODAY report, Prosser said more than 7,100 structures in the county sustained some level of damage during Hurricane Irma.

When there's significant damage, the National Hurricane Center will retire names from appearing on future hurricane season lists, like Matthew, Irma and Hurricane Maria, which devastated Puerto Rico.

Names for the 2018 hurricane season were released in December. Did yours make the list?
